Do You Remember the MAGIC?
Think back to when you were a child: other than your parents, who touched your life in some simple but special way? Everyday, simple activities such as catching fireflies, baking cookies, washing the car, doing homework, or playing sports can be fun and rewarding for both the adult and the child.
What is universal to being a Big Brother or Sister is that most Bigs start out thinking they'll give something back, yet end up saying "I get so much more than I give." As a Big you are simply a friend. We ensure that your friendship fits your lifestyle. Busy people of all ages can get involved.
Adults
Are you interested in mentoring and want a regular schedule of meetings during the school year without the need to provide transportation for your Little? Then MAGIC is for you! MAGIC matches meet for 1½ hours at a set location which is organized and supervised by a BBBS staff member. MAGIC mentors must be 18 years old. Activities and support are provided by the site supervisor as well as the Match Support Specialist on the BBBS staff.
Are you interested in sharing a special hobby or activity in the community and want to have a flexible meeting schedule? Then the Community-Based program is for you! In the Community-Based program, adults are matched with a child between the ages of 5-17 and meet 2-4 times a month. These matches meet independently in the community and plan their own activities. Community-Based mentors must be 21 years of age and be able to provide transportation for their Littles. These matches are supported by the Match Support Specialist on the BBBS staff.
High School Students
Are you a sophomore, junior or senior in high school? Do you have the desire to serve your community and to work with children? Do you have one hour a week after school to spare? Then have we got an opportunity for YOU! Our Bigs In Schools program Matches meet for one hour a week for 6 months during the school year. Bigs and Littles in the program play games, sports, just talk, or work on homework. Most of all, you have FUN and the children benefit from having a consistent mentor in their lives. Activities and support are provided by the site supervisor as well as the Match Support Specialist on the BBBS staff.
